About Open Source
Open Source carries launch notices for software whose source code is published and free to inspect, modify and redistribute. Entries run from finished desktop and mobile apps, to code meant to be embedded in other people's work, to services a team installs on its own servers, to models and training kit released for reuse. Each notice is set out in press-release form, with the maker's claims stated plainly and left for the reader to weigh.
Every listing sits in a single main category, chosen at submission and included free. This page gathers everything filed in the subcategories below and offers filters to narrow the column. Newest launches lead by default; readers may re-sort by community votes, which cannot be bought. Makers who want a project to sit in further categories can take the upgrade, priced at $5.

Open Source: questions answered
- What counts as open source on this site?
- Products whose source code is published under a licence permitting others to read, modify and share it. A hosted service with private code, or a free tier on proprietary software, belongs elsewhere. State the licence plainly when you complete the profile so readers can see the terms.
- Which subcategory suits my project?
- Pick by how the product reaches its user. Apps are used directly; libraries are imported by developers; self-hosted tools are installed on the buyer's own infrastructure; AI covers models, datasets and training kit. If two fit, choose the one where your intended user would look first.
- How do I get an open source project listed?
- Go to /submit and paste your website. The profile is drafted automatically from your site, and you review and amend each field before publication. A paid launch is $5; free listings wait in line for roughly 6-8 weeks.
- How are listings ordered on this page?
- Newest first by default, so a fresh release sits at the top of the column. Switch to community votes to see what readers rate highest. Votes are not for sale, so that order reflects reader interest rather than spend.
- What should I weigh up when comparing open source products?
- Read the licence terms, note how recently the project was updated, and judge whether the documentation and install steps are clear. Look at who maintains it and how issues are handled. For self-hosted and AI releases, find out what hardware or data you must supply.
